11th International Civil Engineering Conference

The Institution of Engineers Pakistan Karachi Centre, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi and NEDIAN Association-Pakistan on the occasion of NED Centennial year (1921-2021) had jointly organized the 11th International Civil Engineering Conference (ICEC-2020-21) on Thursday 1st April, 2021 at Video Conferencing Hall, Department of Civil Engineering, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi on Hybrid Mode-Physical & Zoom in collaboration with The Asian Civil Engineering Coordinating Council, (ACECC), Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries (FEIIC), Federation of Engineering Institutions of South & Central Asia (FEISCA), Association of Consulting Engineers Pakistan (ACEP),Baluchistan University of Engineering & Technology. Khuzdar-(BUET), Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences. Quetta- (BUITEMS), Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi- (SSUET), Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro (MUET) and Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Sciences & Technology. Nawabshah - (QUEST). Theme of the 11th International Civil Engineering Conference was "Integrating Innovation & Sustainability in Civil Engineering".

Inaugural Session:
Thursday the 1st April, 2021

The Inaugural Session of the Conference was held on at Video Conferencing Hall, Department of Civil Engineering, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi.

The Conference started with recitation of Holy Quran by Qari Muhammad Bilal Usmani followed by The National Anthem.

Engr. Samra Masood, Faculty Member, Department of Civil Engineering, NEDUET, conducted the Inaugural Session.

Mr. Javed Kureishi, Chairman, BOD Sindh, Infrastructure Development Co. Ltd. Karachi was the Chief Guest, while Engr. Prof. Dr. Ehsanullah Kakar, Vice-Chancellor, Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Khuzdar joined the Conference through zoom link as Guest of Honour.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Rizwan ul Farooqi, Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering, NEDUET presented the Conference briefing.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Asad Ur Rehman Khan, Dean, Faculty of Civil and Petroleum Engineering, NEDUET presented his address.

Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chairman IEP Karachi Centre presented the welcome address.

The keynote address was presented by Dr. Kaancheepuram N. Gunalan, Ph.D, PE, DGE, FASCE, President American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE-2020) on "Engineering, the Future" which was an online presentation and appreciated by the participants.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Vice-Chancellor, NED University of Engineering and Technology and Convener 11th International Civil Engineering Conference-2020-2021 presented his address.

Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre presented the Conference shield to the Chief Guest.

Engr. M. Farooq Arbi, Secretary IEP Karachi Centre, presented the vote of thanks

CLOSING SESSION
The closing session was held after the technical sessions of the Conference.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Abdul Jabbar Sangi, Co-Convener, ICEC-2021 presented the Conference Highlights.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Vice-Chancellor, NED University of Engineering and Technology and Convener 11th International Civil Engineering Conference-2020-21 presented his address.

He further informed that a 7-member team of third year civil engineering students from ACI NEDUET Student Chapter represented NED University of Engineering & Technology at the ACI (American Concrete Institute) Spring Virtual Concrete Solutions Competition 2021 and won 1st prize in the most innovative design/developmental use of concrete category. Dr Shamsoon Fareed, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, NEDUET was the Faculty Advisor.

The ACI Spring Concrete Solutions Competition 2021 was open to ACI Student Chapters from across the globe. Teams were required to submit a YouTube video to demonstrate/ explain how their use of concrete could positively impact the world at large. The top 20 submittals were shortlisted for a live interview with judges during the ACI Virtual Concrete convention on 28th March, 2021

NEDUET's team presented the use of Sugarcane Bagasse Ash (SCBA) as a partial replacement of cement in concrete, thereby significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the cement industry without compromising on the functionality and technical aspects of concrete.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi highly appreciated the excellent work done by students of NEDUETand Engr. Dr. Shamsoon Fareed for his valuable guidelines and support.

Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre also appreciated and assured his support.
