Half Day Seminar to mark the 45th Anniversary of Earth Day
Theme: “Changing Lifestyles - Our Turn to Lead”

A half day seminar to mark the 45th Anniversary of Earth Day was held on Saturday the 25th April, 2015 at IEP Convention Center, 5th Floor, IEP Building, Karachi. The Theme of the Seminar was “Changing Lifestyles – Our Turn to Lead”.

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 192 countries every year.

It is 45 years since the first Earth Day. Plenty has happened since then to explore different pathways to sustainability – from big, high-profile international conferences and governance, to local activism and action, and all scales in between. This year, 2015, is a crunch year for science, environment and development agreements,

The Seminar started from recitation of Holy Quran by Engr. Sadia Muniza Faraz followed by national anthem.

Engr. Ayaz Mirza, Secretary IEP Karachi Centre presented the welcome address. He acknowledged the outstanding achievements of Engr. Asfia Aleem convener of the Women Engineers Committee and also praised the efforts of the members of women engineers committee for organizing the event of its kind held at the IEP, reflecting the dedication of the women engineers organizing committee.

The keynote lecture on “Changing Lifestyles – Your Turn to Lead” was presented by Engr. Roland deSouza, Representative of SHEHRI- Citizen for better Environment.

Engr. Beena Riaz, Member Women Engineers Committee presented the Introduction of the Seminar and made a presentation on “Celebrating 45th Earth Day – 1970-2015”

Opening and Concluding remarks were given by Engr. Nooruddin Ahmed and he appreciated the efforts put up by the IEP office bearers and members of the organizing committee particularly the Women Engineers Committee. He expressed hope that IEP Karachi Centre, will continue to identify the problems being faced by citizens and find practical solutions and prepare recommendations to be sent to the concerned quarters for implementation. He reassured that IEP will continue to organize Seminar/Workshops/Panel Discussion on the mega issues.

Engr. Shehla Andleeb and Engr. Anum Raza conducted the seminar.

Engr. Ayaz Mirza, Secretary IEP Karachi Centre accompanied with Engr. Asfia Aleem, and Engr. Nooruddin Ahmed presented the Seminar shields to the Keynote Speaker and Authors.

The event formally came to an end with the vote of thanks by Engr. Herra Nasim. The seminar ended followed by lunch.
