9th International Mechanical Engineering Conference (IMEC-2019)
Friday the 15th & Saturday 16th March, 2019 at IEP Karachi Convention Center

The 9th International Mechanical Engineering Conference (IMEC-2019) jointly organized by the Institution of Engineers Pakistan, Karachi Centre and NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, was held on Friday the 15th & Saturday the 16th March, 2019 in collaboration with Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries (FEIIC) and Federation of Engineering Institutions of South & Central Asia (FEISCA), Pakistan HVACR Society, Association of Consulting Engineers (Pakistan), Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering & Management Sciences (BUITEMS) - Quetta, Balochistan University of Engineering & Technology – Khuzdar, Dawood University of Engineering & Technology – Karachi, DHA Suffa University – Karachi, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro and Pakistan Navy Engineering College – NUST – Karachi.

The theme of the 9th International Mechanical Engineering Conference was “Futuristic Trends in Mechanical Engineering”.

Inaugural Session
Friday the 15th March, 2019

The Inaugural Session of the Conference started with recitation of the Holy Quran by Engr. Saqib Sharif followed by National Anthem.

The Inaugural Session was conducted by Engr. Neelofar Hameed Khan, Member Central Council, IEP.

Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Senior Vice-President, FPCCI was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Session, while Mr. Moin Raza Khan, Managing Director, Pakistan Petroleum Limited was the Guest of Honour.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Nasiruddin Shaikh, Chairman, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NED University of Engineering and Technology and Co-Convener,9th International Mechanical Engineering Conference presented briefly about the Conference.

Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre presented his address.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Vice-Chancellor, NED University of Engineering and Technology presented his address.

A Key Note presentation on “Clean Energy and Sustainability: Keys for Future Prosperity” was given by Dr. Kamran Siddiqui, Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and Associate, Dean (Acting) Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, University of Westem Ontario, Canada, which was highly appreciated.

Engr. Dr. Muhammad Tufail, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NEDUET and Convener, 9th International Mechanical Engineering Conference also spoke on this occasion.

Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre, and Engr. M. Farooq Arbi, Secretary, IEP Karachi Centre presented the Conference shield to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Dr. Kamran Siddiqui, Keynote Speaker.

Engr. Prof.Dr. Mubashir Ali Siddiqui, Secretary 9th International Mechanical Engineering Conference presented the vote of thanks.

The Inaugural Session came to an end before Maghrib Prayer followed by Conference Dinner.

The Conference was spread over seven (07) technical sessions in two days at Convention Center and two parallel sessions at Dr. S.A.Hasan Hall and Engr. Asfia Aleem Hall.

Engr. Senator Rukhsana Zuberi was the Chief Guest at the Closing Session, while Engr. Prof. Dr. S. F. A. Rafeeqi, Immediate Past Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre was the Guest of Honour.

Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre delivered his address.

A Key Note presentation on “Restructuring of Pakistan Power Sector: Successes and Failures, Renewable Case Study – Bagasse Projects” was given by Engr. Naveed Siddiq, Former Deputy Project Engineer, KESC Former Project Manager, Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB), Former Case Officer, NEPRA, Former Technical Advisor ETPT for 3 IPP’s at Quetta, Kabirwala and Sheikhupura, Former Senior Energy Expert Policy Programme-USAID, Presently General Manager, Energy Project GFF Group, which was highly appreciated.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Vice-Chancellor, NED University of Engineering and Technology, also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts made for this conference.

The Conference recommendations were presented by Engr. Dr. Prof. Mubashir Ali Siddiqui, Co-Convener, IMEC-2019

IEP Karachi Centre awarded “Chairman IEP Karachi Centre Medal” to the best paper of the Conference.

Selection Committee comprising of session chairs decided the best paper of the Conference.

The best paper award was given to Engr. Faraz Ahmed, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, GIK on presenting his paper on “Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics of Micro-channel Heat Sink with Cylindrical Ribs and Cavities”
