Half Day Seminar on Emerging Technologies
Saturday the 21st January, 2017 at IEP Convention Centre

The Institution of Engineers Pakistan, Karachi Centre had organized a Half Day Seminar on “Emerging Technologies”, on Saturday the 21st January, 2017 at IEP Convention Centre.

This seminar was the sixth event of a series of monthly events, organized by the Women Engineers Committee of the Institution of Engineers Pakistan, Karachi Centre (IEP-KC) for the term 2016-2018.

The need of this seminar may be summarized by the fact that in today’s world, Technology plays the most significant and critical role in economic development and prosperity of nations. A country may possess a lot of natural resources, but it lags behind other nations in economic development if it does not possesses the enabling technologies for discovery, production and proper and full exploitation of its natural resources. 19th century was the century of industrial revolution. 20th century has been characterized by the scientific revolution. In the 21st century, we are on the verge of a transformation revolution. Technology is the main driver of this transformation. Pakistan is lagging not only in acquisition of existing technologies but also in discovery and development of emerging game changing technologies. We have no choice. We either develop and possess these technologies and be part of the great transformation or be condemned to perpetual dependence, backwardness and poverty.

The seminar started from recitation of Holy Quran and followed by National Anthem.

Engr. Ayaz Mirza, Secretary, IEP Karachi Centre presented an overview of the Institution of Engineers Pakistan. He also invited the participants who are not members of IEP as yet, to become member of IEP. He also appreciated the efforts put up by Women Engineers Committee IEP Karachi Centre particularly Engr. Asfia Aleem, Chairperson, Women Engineers Committee IEP Karachi Centre, Engr. Rukhsana Rahooja, Engr. Beena Riaz, Engr. Sadia Muniza Fraz. He assured all support to Women Engineers from IEP Karachi Centre for organizing such activities.

Engr. Prof. Dr. S.F.A. Rafeeqi, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre presented the welcome address. He acknowledged the outstanding achievements of Women Engineers Committee IEP Karachi Centre particularly Engr. Asfia Aleem, Chairperson, Women Committee, IEP Karachi Centre for organizing an exclusive event of its kind held at the IEP, reflecting the dedication of the women engineers organizing Committee. He expressed hope that women engineers will continue to gather here, identify their problems and find practical solutions by taking ownership. He reassured that IEP will continue to support them in all respect.

Engr. Prof. Dr. S.F.A. Rafeeqi, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre, accompanied with Engr. Ayaz Mirza, Secretary, IEP Karachi Centre, Engr. Sohail Bashir, Vice-Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre, Engr. Asfia Aleem, Chairperson, Women Engineers Committee, IEP Karachi Centre presented the seminar shield and certificate to the Authors.

The event formally came to an end with concluding remarks and vote of thanks by Engr. Rukhsana Rahooja, Member, Local Council and Member, Women Engineers Committee, IEP Karachi Centre.
