3rd INTERNATIONAL MECHANCIAL ENGINEERING CONGRESS
20th & 21st MARCH,2006
(IEP HALL, 5TH FLOOR, IEP BUILDING KARACHI)
The
3rd International Mechanical Engineering Congress was held on 20th
& 21st March,2006 at Karachi. Engr.Illahi Buksh Soomro,Ex-Speaker
National Assembly and Ex-Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre was the Chief
Guest at the Inaugural Session. Engr.Prof.Dr.A.A.Junejo,Vice-Chancellor,
Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering and Technology, Nawabshah
was the guest of honour.
The
Congress started from recitation of Holy Quran by Engr.M.Sameeh
Shafi, Vice-Chairman (Electrical). Engr.Zaffar Zuberi, Chairman,
IEP Karachi Centre presented the welcome address. Engr.Khurshid
Ghais Ahmed, Secretary General, IEP briefed about the IEP.
Keynote
Address was presented by Engr.Dr.S.A.Hasan, Past-President, IEP
and Past Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre, who high-lighted the theme
of the Congress “The Cutting Edge Technologies in Mechanical
Engineering”.
Engr.Brig.
(R) Khursheed Ghias Ahmed, Secretary General, IEP and Engr.Zaffar
Zuberi, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre presented the Congress shield
to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. Engr.Ayaz Mirza, Secretary
IEP Karachi Centre & Convener, TIMEC-2006 presented the vote
of thanks. Engr.Sohail Bashir, Facilitator, TIMEC-2006 conducted
the Inaugural Session.

closing session was held after the 5th technical session of the
congress.
The
Closing Session started from recitation of Holy Quran by Engr.Anwar
ul Haq Siddiqui, Coordinator, TIMEC-2006. Engr.Z.A.Nizami, Chancellor,
Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology was the Chief
Guest Engr.Zaffar Zuberi, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre presented
the welcome address. Engr.Khurshid Ghais Ahmed, Secretary General,
IEP also address the audience.
On
the eve of TIMEC-2006 IEP Karachi Centre has arranged a student
competition on the basis of final year students of Engineering University

The
2nd prize of Rs.7,500.00 was won by students of Pakistan Naval Engineering
College, National University of Science and Technology (NUST), The
title of project/Thesis was “Design and Fabrication of Apparatus
for Study of Torsion or Rods Under Applied Torque” prepared
by S/Lt. M. Asalm PN, S/Lt. Zahid Javed PN under the guidance of
Mr. Khurram Jamal Hashmi.
3rd Prize of Rs. 5,000.00
The
3rd prize of Rs.5,000.00 was won by students of Industrial &
Manufacturing Engineering Department – NED University of Engineering
& Technology, Karachi. The title of project/Thesis was ““Design
and Fabrication of High Speed Cargo Lift Upto Three Floor (Design
can be Scaled to Approriate Size) By using S7-300 PLC” prepared
by Rubab Kalimullah, Tooba Jawed, Sadia Gul Baloch, Faiza Jamil
under the guidance of Mr. Masoor Ahmed Khan and Mr. Hamid Mahmood.

Prize of Rs.3,000.00
A
special prize of Rs.3,000.00 was also be given to the student of
Mechanical Engineering Department – Mehran University of Engineering
& Technology, Jamshoro (Sindh). The title of project/ thesis
was “Design & Fabrication of Windmill for Pumping Water”
prepared by Sajid Ali, Ghazanfer Hussain, Mukhtiar Faisal, Rajai
Rashid Abro under the guidance of Prof. Mushtaq A. Memon.
63 delegates were registered from various organizations. (The list

A
