3rd INTERNATIONAL CIVIL ENGINEERING CONGRESS
21-22 FEBRUARY,2003 AT KARACHI

The 3rd International Civil Engineering Congress, organized by the Institution of Engineers Pakistan was held on 21st-22nd February, 2003 at Karachi.

Mr. Mohammad Adil Siddiqui, Minister of Labour, Transport, Industries and Commerce, Government of Sindh inaugurated the Congress. Engr.M.P.Gangwani, President, IEP presented address of welcome, Engr.Ch.Mohammad Rashid Khan, Secretary General, IEP presented the introduction of IEP, Engr.Khalid Quraishi, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre presented a vote of thanks, while Engr.I.H.Siddiqi was stage Secretary.

Engr.Mohammad Shafique Awan, Convenor of the Congress and Vice-President, (Civil, Structural & Agri Engg.,) IEP presented keynote address.

IEP shield was presented to the Chief Guest.

The 1st Technical Session of the Congress was chaired by Mrs.Mehtab A.Rashdi,Secretary Govt of Sindh, Information Department and Engr.M.Shafique Awan, co-chaired the Session.

Engr.Prof.Dr. Mahboob A. Choudhry, UET Lahore, Dr.Syeda Shahnaz, Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, Engr.Rasool Bux Mahar, and Engr. Zhuaib Siddiqui, Mehran University of Engineering & Technology presented their research papers.

The 2nd Technical Session of the Congress was chaired by Air Vice-Marshal (Retd) Sardar Khan, Vice-Chancellor, UET, Peshawar. Engr. I.H.Siddiqi,Past-Presidnet, FEISCA and Secretary, IEP Karachi Centre Co-Chaired the Session.

Engr.Dr.Iqbal Ali, Environment Consultant, Engr.M.Azhar Javaid, Engr.Tariq Yamin, Directorate of Land Reclamation, Irrigation & Power Department, Mr.Shakeel ur Rahman, Engro Asahi Polymer & Chemical Ltd., presented their research papers.

The 3rd Technical Session of the Congress was chaired by Engr.Choudhry Mohammad Rashid Khan, Secretary General, IEP and Engr.Nadir Khan, Chairman, IEP Lahore Centre co-chaired the Session.

Engr.Rukhsana Rahooja, CWHR, Engr. Abdul Aziz Ansari, Engr. Mehmood Memon, Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Sciences & Technology, and Engr.Abdul Bari Mangi, CWHR presented their research papers.

The 4th Technical Session of the Congress was chaired by Engr.Z.A.Nizami, Chancellor, Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology and Engr.M.Siddiq Essa , Secretary Association of Consulting Engineers of Pakistan was the Co-Chairman.

Engr.Mahmood Memon, Engr.Noor Ahmed Memon, Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Dr.M.U.Afridi, Dadabhoy Construction Technologies (Pvt) Ltd presented their technical research papers.

The 5th Technical Session of the Congress was chaired by Engr.Prof.A.A.Junejo, Vice-Chancellor, Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering Sciences and Technology and Engr.M.Shafique Awan, Convenor & Vice-President, IEP was the Co=Chairman.

Engr.M.Aslam Mirza, Support Consultant, Dr.Javed Yunus Uppal, Engineering Project Development Consultant (Pvt) Ltd. presented their research papers, and the paper of Engr.A.W.Channa was presented by Engr.Khalharo.

The 6th Technical Session of the Congress was chaired by Engr. N.H.Taqvi, Chairman, Council for Works and Housing Research and Engr.M. Shafique Awan, Convenor & Vice-President, IEP was the Co-Chairman.

Engr.Siddiq-a-Akbar, UET, Lahore, Mr. Tariq Moen, PIA, Karachi, Engr.Dr.Mir.Shabbar Ali and Engr.M.Adnan presented their research papers.

The Closing session was held in the evening and Dr.Ishrat Hussain, Governor of State Bank of Pakistan was the chief guest. The certificates and shield were given to the authors by the chief guests.

Dinner was also held followed by Mushaira in which famous poets of the country participated.
